Eerie Film Music with Ableton

Making short films as a hobby? Can´t find free music that fits your films? Why not make your own?
I just took a one week course at CREA on Electronic Music Production to make my own music for my short films.
We used Ableton Live 8 on our Macs. The program has a big library of instruments and sound effects and an easy to use interface. And you don´t need to know any music theory to come up with something. I just played around to see what sounds good and here is what I came up with in the end..
Some spooky eerie short film music I thought..
I will make a short animated film for this if I have time..
Well, you are also free to use this song as long as you refer back to me.

A Role Playing Games Documentary: “Men Of War”

This short documentary is about Role Playing Games, it will tell you what table top role playing game is and what it is not.
I have been working on this project since the last meet up of the Netherlands Role Players’ Guild.
I interviewed with 8 people in total, 6 of which I knew from the guild.
It costed me only 3×60mins of mini DV’s and around 2 days of re-watching, indexing and planning + 3 days of editing work.
The song at the back of the interviews is called “Bugün”, and it is composed and played by a friend of mine “Karaimer”. He also agreed to compose and play other songs for my upcoming short films. /happy

Anyway, here is the final edit of the video, so here you can watch and comment on it. So that I can make it better. And thanks for watching!

Elf Fantasy Fair 2009

Think of 24.500 people, visiting a small village which is decorated with various fantastic themes, dressing and behaving in anyway they like for two days. Anywhere you look, there is always something interesting to see. Lucky that I had my camera with me, so that I could make a short video out of it.

Elf Fantasy Fair takes place in Haarzuilens(The Netherlands) every year around April. It’s a fair where people go and have some fun, listen to some concerts, shop for all kinds of uncommon things they can’t find in their daily shopping trips. People dress as they like, behave as they like. It is a nice weekend to escape reality.

How To Make Your Cat Dance On Fire Using A Laser Pointer And Adobe After Effects

Lately I have been into video making and now I am trying some fire and smoke effects. Being the cute and tiny victim of my projects, my cat Copy will be dancing on fire for you this time.

There is not much to say, I used VideoCopilot.net and MaltaAnnon’s tutorials as my beginning point to Adobe After Effects. If you also feel like adding some cool effects on your videos, I would say go and get yourself an Adobe After Effects. Uh and don’t forget to create some free time; because video making really consumes a lot of time.

Jingle Jungle

Another project revised!
I developed this program for Computing and Art class, in 2005, so don’t expect too much of it -there is even a bug, you will see. I used Open Scene Graph as a graphics library and OpenAL as audio library. And we used Maya and Plant Studio to design the 3d models.

Jingle Jungle was ment to be the “Abstract Visualization of Interactive Sound Construction”, but for now it is only a demo of this sound construction visualization..

In further stages this could be adapted to help children learn sounds of nature faster.
Or even further stages of the program could use some human computer interaction through movement interpretation and people could make music while actually dancing.. A music that is adapting, changing speed and style according to your movements!
We could even project the camera views of 4 sides on the walls around the user and let the user navigate through the scene with his movements on a threadmill, or a WII board :-)

Or may be these are already done…
